Jerry Williams Interview

Jerry Williams is one of the most exciting singer-songwriters about right now. Her three self-released EP’s demonstrate her unique style and excellent song-writing skills. Late last year she dropped new single ‘Grab Life’, which conveys carefree summery vibes in her most upbeat effort yet

We had the pleasure of catching up with Jerry Williams as she embarks on her busiest year yet.

Your latest track ‘Grab Life’ is incredible, how did the track come about?

Thank you so much! It was actually inspired by a really sad event that happened just over a year ago now. A family friend of mine passed away and I’d never lost anyone I knew before, so it really knocked me for six. I wrote a few sad songs about it but she was a lovely, smiley, happy person and it really made me think that we should all try and live life to full and be happy, just like she was. Life really is too short.

What can you tell us about your debut album and what we can expect next from you?

There’s a lot of new songs with more of an edge. I write about different concepts which has been super fun. I’ve grown up more so my song subjects are about new people I’ve met, new feelings I’ve experienced. I’ve got a lot more stories.

What, if push comes to shove, are your five favourite albums of all time?

Coldplay – Parachutes

Vampire Weekend (the first one)

Slow Club – Paradise

David Gray – White Ladder

Jake Bugg – Jake Bugg

You’re playing SXSW this year, are there any artists on the line-up that you especially want to check out?

I’d love to see Superorganism! They really interest me! Even their stage set up looks so cool and I find them really different. I’d love to see them and I’m super excited to discover new bands too.

It’s currently Independent Music Week. On that note, have you got any independent venues that you love?

Yeah! I’ve played a lot of shows all over the place. I love the Wedgewood rooms at my hometown in Portsmouth. I’ve seen so many bands there growing up so that’s always been a ‘homely’ place to play for me. I played at Jimmys Manchester and that was honestly one of the coolest venues ever!!! Loved it there.

And finally, what does the rest of 2018 hold for you?

More music! I’m so excited to release my new music, it feels like ages. I’m eager to show what I’ve been working on.
